Family Reunion

Here I sit, in Detroit after a full weekend in the Corning, NY area for the annual "Card" Family reunion. As in past years I recognized maybe half of the folks there and was able to talk to about a half of those. I played frisbee with some of the little ones and it looks like frisbee runs in the "Card" blood :) Will be fun to see what some of them can do as they get older.

I'd throw some pictures up, but that will have to wait till I get to a computer that is not locked down (like this one). I am sitting in the 'Online Cafe' in the Detroit airport after a delayed flight in Corning/Elmira caused me to miss my connecting flight to Roanoke. So this will be my second 3+ hour layover in Detroit in 3 days. Some of the good that has come of it is that I can give out helpful information about the airport and even spent 15 minutes working at an empty information desk (yes, I have pictures). I went on a photo journaling journey and thing I have some pretty funny stuff. I'll have to post part of my story (once again when I am not locked down). I didn't think it possible to lock down computers anymore than they are at where I work, but I have learned differently.

What else have I done with my time? I started reading 'The Chronicles of Narnia' by C.S. Lewis and have written 20+ letters. Nice to be able to catch up with those. I actually spent a better part of my Saturday morning in the lobby of an Econo Lodge writing letters when an older gentleman approached me and said it looked like I was writing 'Thank You' letters from a wedding. Is my choice of casual stationary really that formal? Sunday held breakfast with a few family members followed by a trip to the Corning Museum of Glass, which was great. Glass/Fiber Optics is sort of what Corning is known for so it was good to see some of the local attraction. After that it was up to Watkins Glen State Park to see the Gorge. I last saw it when I was maybe 13 and this time I really was able to enjoy it. So a light hike, then to the airport for flight one, followed by now :)

Well, I have a meal coming, so I am out. Look for pictures soon.

Was Halmark and Shoe Box Greetings there? Sorry I could not resist.

It sounds like a really nice trip. I am glad you had a good visit. I have not been to Corning in a long time. Maybe next time I head home I will wander by.

The older gentleman may have said that because people really don't write letters anymore. He probably just assumed that was why you would be writing. I truly miss getting letter, real hand written letters. Good for you. I think I'll start doing that too. Maybe, just maybe, someone will write back. :)
