evolution of an individual

I've come to the conclusion that wisdom can be found in a lot of different places. One of these places just happened to be a talk given by a tri-athlete discussing the physiology of endurance training that I attended last Thursday night. The statement:

"Over time we seem to evolve into what we do best..."

Now this comment was made in the context of active people choosing their body specific sport, but on a whole it applies to so much of life right now. The quote brings up thoughts of gifting (spiritual & talent) as well as finding out one's particular likes and dislikes. Now there are other factors that come into play here. One does not just become something over time without them. One of these things is critical thought & reflection, another would be community, I'm sure there are plenty of pieces. One example in my life was back in 1998 when I decided to go work for General Electric in Charlottesville. I enjoyed Charlottesville, but by the end of the summer I realized that I did not want to be doing that line/type of work. So given experience & thought I 'evolved' by coming back to school in the fall and shaking up my entire schedule. Classes, major, the whole deal. And I was 1 year away from graduation. Must have seemed crazy to some, but it is one of the best decisions I have ever made.

As I continue to grow, experience, think and change I am thankful for this whole process as the person who holds something to be total truth today may argue with the me 5 years from now... So I'm enjoying life and trying as many things as I can (within reason & my conscience), it's the only way to figure out what I like or dislike. And over time I trust that I will evolve towards what I do best.

I like that quote and it makes sense. I think it definitely holds true if you're measuring it in temrs of happiness, success, and fulfillment, because you will maximize all of those by evolving into what you do best. If it wasn't true, the implication seems to be that you would end up being/doing something that you do not like.
