quotes from God on TV?

"Man puts himself in a prison of his own making.
But he always calls on me for the keys."
~God

So I don't watch a lot of TV, I actually rarely find time to sit down and watch. But there is one show that I try to catch when I am in on a Friday night. The show? 'Joan of Arcadia'. To me the title sounds a little cheesy, but that's my opinion. The premise is that there is your normal America family (what is normal?) and their daughter can interact with God. Only God is not always recognizable, He always shows up through different people. Offering Joan advice or giving her things to do. All the while acknowledging that she has free will to decide what she wants to ultimately do. The father is a cop who does not believe in the supernatural and the mother is trying to figure her faith out. One of the brothers is in a wheelchair and I must admit when I first watched the show I was thinking "Oh great, let me guess at some point this kid just gets up and starts walking around because of a miracle". Well, he does not and is forced to deal with his past and current self. The younger brother is the 'smart' kid and is figuring the world out himself as well, usually latching onto Joan's friends. Anyway that is the setup. But the setup is not what gets me each week.

What gets me is how God in the show interacts with Joan and small quotes that are spoken in the most everyday situations. These simple comments (see above) can and sometimes do launch me into thinking about how universal they are and how they fit the human condition. All in all it's just a show, but it's a show that forces me to take God out of a box and to look into the life around me different than the way I had before. Funny what God will use to influence people...

funny...i watch that show sometimes too. i agree that it does make you think of how God uses different people to teach us things or get a message across in a different way.
