Sickness, Favorite things & Weekend plans, what a Crock!

Ahhhh, 65 degrees? In January? In Blacksburg? LIAR!!! No way, apparently the weather today is going to be in the mid 60s. Which means that when I woke up this morning I was feeling horrible, I mean so horrible that there was no way I could go in to work. It looks like I would have to stay home and enjoy the day, with absolutely no symptoms of sickness :) Just joking, can't skip work! But the thought did cross my mind & since I have some comp. time worked up I may just leave a bit early today...

Last night was another basketball shoot as well as hanging out with a friend @ Macados! The conversation was good and you know what? For the first time in a long time I am completely happy and feel free to do anything. Anything? Well, within reason of course. I am realizing that the things I enjoy doing help people out. I mean service is not service, but with my skills it is more like fun. Now I have known this was possible, but I think I let other things in the past hamper what I did, based on what I was "supposed to do". It's a long conversation, so I won't get into it. The short of it is I have a loving family (even if it gets crazy at times), great friends and a God who loves me unconditionally.

In other news my weekend plans now include a trip down to North Carolina to visit my relatives! Will be leaving on Friday and will likely be returning in time for the youth group meeting on Sunday. Can't wait to catch up with the family as things down there are more relaxed and catching up with family is one of my favorite things to do. Speaking of favorite things to do, what are yours? That's right, you reading this little blog? Post in comments... I have 2 things, one right behind the other. I'll post them later. I will also get to take in a basketball game while down in NC, as the DCA team is traveling to High Point, NC. Should be a fun weekend, but it's not here yet...

Tonight's plans: dinner with friends at my place. A chicken dish from the new crock-pot and rice from the new rice cooker. It's cooking as I type :)

"Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things

When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad"

Seriously though, good post. I'll give it some thought and get back to you. I could use some positive thinking today!

Favorite things to do...drink coffee in the morning while catching up on news, plant stuff and watch it grow, read a good book, talk with my Mom while we do the dishes, talk in person with my sisters, there are too many others to list, but those are a few.

My favorite things.. hmmmm This is one of my big problems in life, I enjoy too many things so I A - Don't have time for them all and B - Can't afford them all! Where do I start.... Spending time with my family, hanging out with my friends (note- most activites below favorite factor increased when with good company), sports (watching Hokies play in Lane Stadium, watching DC United, playing soccer, snowboarding, golf, ultimate, lifting), curling up with a good book/magazine, roadtrips/vacations, country (being in it, music, concerts, bars, line dancing), Crafts (quilting, stampin, stitching), cooking for others, collecting, shopping, shoes, Hard Rock Cafe, scarfs/hats/mittens, pink, making other people laugh/smile, pictures... I'm sure I forgot a couple :)

well since r.m. already posted exactly what i thought when i read this entry, i'll have to post some of my real favorite things ...

good times with good friends ... doesn't even matter what as much as who, when you work out long/hard enough the sweat is flowing down and stinging your eyes (i realize that is weird, but that's when you know you're working hard), Hokie football esp. in Lane Stadium esp. for a night game, solving a complex problem, sleeping in, naps on the drillfield, unexpected mail (esp. real, snail mail) from a friend, phone calls with friends I haven't talked to in awhile, playing sports esp. football (and hitting someone hard!), reading a good book, sitting on top of War Memorial Chapel late at night and just looking out over the drillfield reflecting ...

i'm sure i missed some things.

After thinking about this for a couple of days, I've realized that my farovite things are not things at all. My list is full of sensations and feelings. Here they are, in no particular order:

-warmth from the sun hitting your face on a cool spring day
-the feeling of energy that I get when walking in a big city
-doing something with a group when the group is really clicking and everyone is having fun
-making other people happy
-getting in a hot car after spending the day in air conditioning
-getting into a groove on a really long run
-getting so into an activity that the world kind of fades away (e.g. a good book, movie, work task, home project, music, talking with a friend, etc.)
-the feeling I get when I have a good parenting moment
-feeling loved
-hugs
-playing ultimate frisbee
-silliness
-cynical humor
-cheering for my daughters' sports teams
-walking barefoot on the beach and in the grass

I have a ton more...
