Every Summer my father's side of the family gets together in Corning, New York for the "Card Family Reunion". We eat, we catch up, we have a raffle, we toss frisbee and even do a little bit of swimming. I've been to around 3 in the past 5-6 years and I've enjoyed them. There are a lot of stories that not only spring up from being at the reunion, but more often than not revolve around the trip getting there. There was the time we broke down climbing the mountains in PA and got to spend the night waiting for a tow truck driver named Cliff at 3am. There was the time when while traveling out of New York City we stopped in a NJ Diner to pick up a Strawberry Cake. By the time that poor cake had arrived in Corning, it was barely recognizable as a cake. Every year I get to know my relatives a little more and every year there are those new ones that come and are never to be seen again. This year I won't be making it. Instead I'll be on my honeymoon. It looks like I have some work to do before next year to get Erin ready. The conversation below is one I've been having with a first cousin:

Hey everybody, mark your calendar. Family reunion for 2006 is July 29, same time, same place. Let me know who all is attending so we can plan for the items we furnish. Please pass this on to family members not copied as I do not have everyone's e-mail address. ~Bill and Martha Card

Certainly, by then she will have heard some more of the Card stories and won't go running when she sees so many Cards in one place!!! ~Rex

Sure hope she hasn't heard too many by then, or she will never
show up........ ~Bill

True, I have to tell her enough to warn but not enough stories to scare. In your experience what is that number? ~Rex

Just spread the stories over a very long period of time. Like maybe 40 years. That worked for me....... ~Bill
As with everything, moderation is key :)

There are also late night Pizza and Crab Leg deliveries and Corning Pizza outings in the rain. Well miss you this year and when you bring Erin, tell her to wear her wet suit. It gets a little wild sometimes.
